Michael Phelps has had a busy year in preparing for the 2016 Olympics.
Between all the training and Grand Prix meets and sponsor commitments (including this rad Under Armour commercial) he has had a lot on his plate. The thing that had him most excited, however, wasn’t making a fifth Olympic team or adding to his total of 18 Olympic gold medals.
It was becoming a father.
And on May 5th, 2016, that’s exactly what happened.
Phelps made the announcement to the general public with a post on his Instagram account.
“Happy and healthy!!! Best feeling I have ever felt in my life!!!!”
It’s great to see the profound effect and change that fatherhood has had on a man who has achieved unparalleled levels of success in sport.
And the name for the newest little Phelps?
Boomer Robert Phelps.
Congratulations to him and his fiancee Nicole.
It’s just one more voice that will be cheering Phelps along both at Trials and at Rio.
